Marion County Democratic Party Endorses Independent Roy Kaufmann for HD18

Salem, Ore. - Marion County Democrats voted without hesitation this evening to endorse Roy Kaufmann, an Independent candidate, as their recommended candidate for Oregon House District 18 [link to map] in both the primary election in May and the general election this November.

[QUOTE FROM ANGELO]

Kaufmann, who has lived and worked in Oregon for twenty years, lives in Silverton with his partner, Gloria. Kaufmann thanked the Democratic Party of Marion County for their open-mindedness and big-tent approach to flipping House District 18, which Republicans have held for decades, with little to show the residents to the district for it.

"Marion County's forward-minded Democrats are integral to electing a clear and independent voice to represent the working families and retired lifelong workers of HD18," Kaufmann said.

Roger Gaither, who filed for office but withdrew to support Kaufmann's bid, spoke at the meeting.

"If we work to get Roy elected, we'll finally have a representative for our district that reflects our core values and works for everyone in the district," Roger said.

About 2 in 3 residents of HD18 live in Marion County; 1 in 3 live in Clackamas County.
